Guest post by Kensington mum, Chada Reynolds:
I recently discovered Menoo Eclectic Foods delicatessen at the corner of Kensington Church Street and Holland Street. It has only been open for two months but it seems to be a local hotspot already. I am always on the lookout for healthy snacks for my picky eater sons, and this did not disappoint me. I bumped into the owner who was there to look after the arrangement of the food and make sure that all is in order, which to me is a sign of a good trader. All items are for take away and take away we did!
All of the handmade pies and rolls such as spinach and feta rolls, mushroom pies down to baklava (in case you don’t know, baklava is a traditional Greek dessert made with walnuts, honey syrup and vanilla) are free of animal fat, no margarine, no butter and no preservatives. Most of the foods there are organic which I love. The pastries are sold by piece or by kilo for parties. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They suggested that I would regret not trying their British lamb, so I ended up buying our family’s dinner as well. And they were right, the lamb was fresh and succulent (even with my half decent cooking), it was the best I have had for a long time.
They also sell charcuteries, a selection of cheeses, gourmet sandwiches as well as take away Italian coffees and fresh juices. I could go on and on…
The icing on the cake for me was that my son who does not normally touch even the spirit of vegetables woofed down the spinach and feta rolls in no time. That was the highlight of my week, if not year…honest.
